causeの意味と使い方 - 英語の個性をみつけるぶろぐ

今回はcauseについてまとめてみます。

causeの意味

to make sth happen, especially sth bad or unplesant

例1 Do you know what caused the fire?

例2 The drought is causing problems for many formers.

例3 The earthquake caused worldspread damage to property.

例4 The project is still causing him a lot of problems.

例5 The poor harvest caused prices to rise sharply.

何か悪いことを引き起こすという意味ですね。いずれの例文も否定的でproblem やdamageと一緒に使われています。problemのは「解決や理解することが難しいもの」を意味し、それがどこに向けられているか示すためにforと組み合わせて使われています。damageは「対象の価値を下げること、対象に悪影響を与えること」を意味し、toを使うことによって対象がpropertyに限定されています。
